Hello!

I am Debapriya Sen, an artist, graphic designer and craft 'n' handloom expert. My job involves working with weavers and artisans across India. I carry 10 years of experience in rural craft and handloom sector. Hibiscuss is my brainchild.

I learned creative painting for 12 years and started exploring different kinds of art forms and media. After completing my graduation, I pursued graphic designing and animation for a diploma. I then started my career as a freelancer, but life still felt incomplete. Once I was in an exhibition and came across various unique textiles and crafts of India. I was so fascinated by the rare materialistic art that I started studying Indian textile and craft. I like fusion and therefore, I introduced it in traditional textile. I explore amalgamation of 2 or 3 kinds of craft in a single piece, and being an environment conscious person, I love upcycling fabric waste into new products.
I make contemporary, concept & modern fusion sarees, stoles and clutches in bright, vibrant and lively colours, as well as in subdued combinations.
I mostly use various kinds of traditional weaves and hand embroideries that are done in Bengal, by our artisans.
My aim is not only to make our patrons feel special with off-beat statement sarees which are modern yet traditional, but also to highlight our traditional technique and to support our very own weavers, block printers and artisans to keep our traditions alive through the generations to come. With my design interventions I aim to help artisans and scale their craft to the urban market.

In the years to come, I look forward to exploring the undiscovered art forms that lie hidden in the vast interior of India and experimenting to escalate it to new heights.
